Leilani
I have a N. clipeata (clone 2 from Wistuba) that is coming into flower. As far as I know, this is the first flowering of this particular clone and it is male. If anyone here knows of a flowering female N. clipeata anywhere in the world at this time please contact me immediately (calhits1@hawaiiantel.net) so this pollen can be put to its best use. If, no suitable female can be found then, would anyone know of an organization or institution with suitable facilities that might be willing to help in the preservation of this pollen. Marco Ebert
Hello Leilani, first: congratulations. But I'm wondering why it's flowering so early. Normally Nepenthes needs more time to flower, right? But yeah, it's very nice. I don't know whether it's possible but the GFP, thats the organization of this forum, has a bank for pollen. I don't know whether there's a word for "Pollenbank" in English, but I hope you understand what I mean. The problem is that you need a membership and then it's luck that they have some pollen for N. clipeata. Greeting from Germany and sleep well, Marco PS: It's evening on Hawaii now, isn't it? Leilani
Hi Marco, Thank you for your reply. As this is my first experience flowering N. clipeata I would not know if it is "flowering early" or not. Although not large the plant is healthy and the flowering appears to be normal in all respects. Aloha PS Yes, it is about a 12 hr. time difference. Marco Ebert
Hey Leilani, could you explain your cultivation form and conditions? Hawaii is very big and I don't know much about the climate on Hawaii. I hope you'll find some pollen. Good luck. Greetz, Marco
Latrodectus
Hello Leilani, what an amazing plant! Congrats also from me! Unfortunately my Clipeatas aren´t adult yet. I grow Wistuba clone "u" and 2. I guess you have also already made a post at CPUK forum, ICPS forum and pitcherplants.com? These may be other good sources to find someone who currently has a female flowering N. clipeata. Else I think you can freeze pollen to save it and use it when another buddy will ask for pollen for his female Clipeata in future. Marco, Leilani´s plant is already adult. N. clipeata doesn´t grow a typical climbing stem. It stays relatively low. Best regards to Hawaii! :-) Andreas
Andreas Melzer
Amazing plant, Sam. My congratulations on this particular success story! Sadly, I do not know of any other flowering female N.clipeata, although we may gain some attention by just keeping this thread up and alive. Also, Andreas made some good suggestions, but I'm sure you already posted the same story over at the other forums, did you? Anyway, my best whishes and good luck. Keep us updated on how the flower develops, and if you were able to get ahold of a lady N.clipeata for dating & mating @Marco: Sam didn't ask for pollen, as this plant in flower is male. He has pollen to share with a female N.clipeata.
Latrodectus
Also, Andreas made some good suggestions, but I'm sure you already posted the same story over at the other forums, did you? Yes, he has!
Marco Ebert
Oh sorry, didn't read that it's male.
